Wat Preah Ngok, Angkor Thom

To the north-west of Bayon, is a small easily overlooked temple. It lies between Bayon and Baphuon temple.
The laterite terrace temple has a single canopy under which sits a 5-meter tall statue of Buddha. Buddha sits in bhumisparsha mudra, on a seat of lotus facing east.
It has a simple terrace measuring 90 meters by 24 meters is made of laterite stones.
The platform rises 1/2 meter above ground and is surrounded by double sema stones.
Sema comes from the word seema, meaning a boundary or limit. Most of the temples have single sema stones. Double sema around a temple indicate that it was rebuilt, expanded and upgraded by royal patronage.
On the side of temple, can be seen remains of building which once existed there.

The platform on which the image sits measures 50 meters by 10 meters.
One interesting feature of this image is that unlike other images, the eyes are open. It is said to belong to late Angkorian period.
Families come to spend some time together here and relax.
