Painted soaps

I became quite busy past few days and had ignored my blog. I come with a bang today. My son got some small soaps for me and I thought of painting them. They become pretty decorative pieces and can also be used.

I also tried my hand on decoupage' along with painting them. I was not happy with decoupage', need to work more on it.

If you plan to use them for decorative purposes then you may use any soap but if you need for personal purposes then I would recommend using a good quality soap or a soap bar which you use as routinely.

Let me go step by step.
The first step involves scraping the soap to remove the imprint of the makers name.

I like to use the simple peeler to remove the name. I tried mandolin but it shaves the soap and does not give a smooth surface.

More work needs to be done, continue scraping

In case a soap is chipped from sides, smoothen that as well.

I need to think of how to use this soap powder

Sand paper the soap if the surface is uneven and ridges are visible.

Once the soaps are ready, paint them. Remember to let the paint dry properly before you seal the surface.

In my haste I brushed the sealer while the paint was still wet and, see, the colors all washed away.

Apply two or three coats of sealer.

Decorate with flowers and ribbons. A cute gift for someone :)
